About Us

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund has been transforming lives since 1995 when the late President personally dedicated a third of his annual salary to found the charity. We work to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children in South Africa and neighbouring countries. His vision centred on the future of the country he loved and the recognition that it lay in the hands children and young people who, along with their families, faced enormous challenges posed by poverty, inadequate education and healthcare, high child mortality rates and HIV and Aids.

Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund is now a leading charity in South Africa that places the welfare and safety of children at its core. Working with hundreds of grassroots organisations in communities across all nine provinces, and extending into the SADC (South African Development Community) region, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund helps to develop cohesion, economic strength and care and compassion within community groups to nurture the children most at risk. Each year the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund helps up to 100,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families.

Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK is the UK fundraising arm.
